Tournament Report by Anthony Subari
This week's FNM is Block Constructed and I choose to play........ SURPRISE SURPRISE..... deck featuring 4 Jaces
Here's the decklist
UW Control
4 Sphinx of Lost Truth
1 Iona, Shield of Emeria
4 Day of Judgment
4 Journey to Nowhere
4 Jace, Mind Sculptor
3 Treasure Hunt
2 Pilgrim's Eye
4 Cancel
4 Everflowing Chalice
2 Spell Pierce
2 Into the Roil
2 Arid Mesa
1 Scalding Tran
4 Halimar Depth
3 Tectonic Edge
4 Plains
4 Island
4 Seijiri Stepe
4 Celestial Collonade
Sideboard:
4 Kor Sanctifier
3 Devout Lightcaster
3 Trap putih yg destroy attacking non-flying creature
1 Spellpierce
1 Tectonice Edge
2 Rite of Replication
1 Pilgrim's Eye
A little explation about the list:
I expected a lot for vampire and allies, not so much on valakut or any of the ramp deck so I made some adjustment on the deck, some card that was considered but ended up not making the deck:
Calcite Snaper: Vampire got gatekeeper, and ally ussually are big enough to punch through turtle, and you needed to doj ally anyway, it doesn't help that both lynx and geopede can punch through him with a little help from fetch also..... I decided to cut him since I don't expect a lot of mirror or ramp matchup
Spreading Seas: They're pretty bad againts anything non-ramp or 3 color allies so I just cut them and maximize the number of edge I have and hope for the best againts kutz
Jwas Isle Sphinx: replaced by it's "Vision" cousin which is wayyyyy better
Luminarch Ascension: They're bad, slow, can be bounced and clunky unless you got turn 2 ascension and you're opponent for some reason aren't prepared for it
Ofcourse, with what I cut I replace with something a little bit unusual, Pilgrim's Eye is the card I went back and forth, but boy am I glad I put this little gem on my deck, It smooths my mana really well... It keeps Luminarch from gaining a counter...... it chumpblocks.... and it protects most of my creature from Gatekeeper..... I definately recomend adding a few of this to your UW deck if you planning on playing UW, also..... I md-ed the 3rd edge and Eye helps with smoothing my colored mana requirement, definately can say that this card really held up it's value today
on to the match report
Round1 vs Haudy/Vampire (2-0)
Game1 he's stuck for a while at 4 mana and I developed my board with jace, when he finally get his mana, I was too far ahead and he scooped shortly after realizing I'm in control
sb:
-1 Treasure hunt
-1 Jace
-1 Sphinx of lost truth
-2 Into the Roil
+3 Devout Lightcaster
+2 Rite of Replication
Game2 He kept a hand with no pressure but managed to mind sludge me for 5 turn 5 and again on turn 6, but I got jace out, and he got very little pressure, I built back with jace and finally win with Jace's Ultimate, I think haudy is pretty manaflooded this game
1-0
Round2 vs EricTan/Ally(2-0)
Game1 he came out fast with hada freeblade into kazandu and stuff, I managed to stall him just enough and DoJ him just a turn before he attacks me for lethal, the next turn I cast Iona naming white, 3 turns later we're on to game 2
sb:
-1 Treasure Hunt
-1 Sphinx of Lost Truth
-2 Spell Pierce
+4 Kor Sanctifier
Game2 I'm not sure if he got luminarch on sb but I'm playing it safe and board all my sanctifier, ofcourse he led up with one on turn 2...... which gain 1 counter...... then 2 counter...... and stopped there because I keep hitting him with my Pilgrim's Eye, he apply little pressure from his milling creature, but it's not really close when I bounced the ascension and wrathed the board sealing it with multiple collonade attacking
2-0
Round3 vs Ari/Vampire(2-0)
He conceded to me in exchange for a couple of donuts
3-0
Round4 vs Bern/BW Ally(0-0)
ID to top4 seems to be really smart at this moment
3-0-1
TOP4 vs Isan/KutzRamp(2-0)
Now this is a match I've been waiting for, not only because it's a REVENGE MATCH, I also gets to play againts something non-ally non-vampire....
Game1 we both developed mana, I manage to counter some early acceleration with my spellpierce, both of which I luckily draw, I think I made the right play when I greedily play both my chalice for 3 (1 of which on my opening 7 and I just slow role them), it helps me stabilize my mana, Isan was throwing some burns at me and I'm very worried when he got 3 kutz out with 4 mountain, meaning a harrow would be enough to toast me, luckily he didn't manage to draw 1 until I Iona for green being in a healty 14 life
sb:
-2 DoJ
-2 JTN
-2 Into the Roil
+1 Pilgrim's Eye
+1 Edge
+3 Trap
+1 SpellPierce
Game2 again we developed mana early and I stuck an early Iona, but I named red instead of green this game seeing as he got 0 kutz on board and 7-8 lands in play, I guess i'm more worried about the comet storm, He tried to fight a bit with double rampaging baloth, but it's nothing that jace and some removal can't handle, I win 3 turns later
4-0-1
FINAL Bern/BW Ally(2-0)
So APEK, we meet again...........
Game1 He started fast with turn 1 hada which I JTN into turn 3 brigand into another hada, I stalled a board a little with jace but needing to find DoJ to clear the board, he managed to kill my jace and hit me for 10 on the turn i got a little greedy with my chalice, facing lethals on board..... I topdecked DoJ like a champ and wrath the board, the match was as good as over when I countered his next 2 threat
sb:
-1 Treasure Hunt
-1 Sphinx of Lost Truth
-2 Spell Pierce
+4 Kor Sanctifier
Game2 I know for sure he got Ascension on his sb and sure enough he plays one on turn 2, I kicked sanctifier on turn 3 tou, thanks to my beloved chalice and as he is stuck on 3 land for 1-2 turn, he didn't manage to put out enough pressure, when I countered his bala ged thief and wrathed the board, the game is as good as done
afterthoughts:
- UW control is I think, by far and away the best deck in Block Constructed
- 4 Sphinx is probably a little greedy seeing that I sided 1 out almost every game but he's just that good
- Pilgrim's Eye is good
- Ascension....... is bad
pros:
-Citadel for my 1st BBE foil
-Winning the vampire Matchup after 2 devastating Mindsludge
-Winning RevengeMatch againts Isan
cons:
-Me chickening out on last moment from playing my MonoRed built

Eric Tan Tournament Report
Most MTG players like to play deck to beat “JUND”, champion deck GP Kuala Lumpur “RDW”, or expensive deck “Mythic”. Now you have to consider the other deck...”ALLY”
I built this deck and won the tourney after was on TOP 4 last week.
Here’s my deck which I name it “Ally mc Beal” hahaha...
Main Deck:
4 Hada Freeblade
4 Kazandu Blademaster
4 Kabira Evangel
3 Talus Paladin
4 Baneslayer Angel
3 Join the Ranks
4 Honor of the Pure
3 Path to Exile
3 Celestial Purge
3 Brave the Elements
2 Negate
4 Celestial Colonnade
4 Glacial Fortress
4 Marsh Flats
2 Halimar Depths
2 Tectonic Edge
7 Plains
Side Board:
3 Devout Lightcaster
4 Kor Firewalker
3 Day of Judgment
3 Pithing Needle
2 Oblivion Ring
Game 1: vs Ipang (Elfdrazi Deck)
He put Arbor Elf at 1st turn. The next turn was Llnowar Elf. The next turn so many elves came onto the battlefield. And he ended with Eldrazi. Nothing much I could do in round 1. Creature stuck *sigh* Same condition as round 1. His deck was so fast with 1st drop in turn 1. My creatures weren’t enough when he cast Wolfbriar Elemental with multiply kicker. (Lost 0-2)
Game 2: vs Untung (Mythic deck)
With his BOP and Cobra, he cast Reliquary at 3rd turn. While I cast Hada and Kazandu at 1st and 2nd turn and never stop to attack before Reliquary getting bigger. At 4th turn and above I cast Join the Ranks three times...my Kazandu is 11/11 with Honor on the battlefield and he couldn’t handle it. Round 2 thanks to Kabira with his protection ability. And I ended game 2 with Celestial Colonnade. (Won 2-0)
Game 3: vs Ari (RDW deck)
Round 1 lost with top decking Ball Lightning when I thought I will win at next turn. Round 2 my side board came to the battlefield... KOR FIREWALKER! And the next Firewalker ended the round 2. With Firewalker in 2nd turn in round 3 you know the result. (Won 2-1)
Game 4: vs Bobby (Jund deck)
Once again thanks to Kabira and Brave the Elements for the win. Round 1 and 2 Hada, Kazandu, Kabira, and Brave then bye bye Jund (Won 2-0)
TOP 4
Semifinal: vs Ipang (Elfdrazi deck)
Hada, Kazandu, Kabira, and Talus... won in Round 1! With a little bit trick to play Day of Judgment I cleared the battlefield when he had mass creatures. With only Kabira and 3 Honors I finished with top deck Brave the Elements. End. (Won 2-0)
Final: vs Haudy (Knightfall deck)
I won because I could cast Hada in 1st, Kazandu in 2nd. His big creatures was exiled by PTE. Won. Same as round 1, I ended the game with victory when he asked if I have protection ability or not. When I reveal my top deck is Brave the elements, he knew what to do
Props:
- Great players, great decks, and great environment
- Koko Yop, for the tourney
- ALLY ROCKS!!!
Cons:
- Nasi goreng sosis sold out!
- Can’t revenge with Isan’s Boss Naya deck

YES! IT'S A 98% COPY OF WHAT I PLAYED @ WW GAMESDAY
Round1: Ipank with Naya Realmrazer(win 1-0)
Game1 started of with him playing as naya, I traded removal with his creature and countered a couple of spells and hit drops realmrazer which surprises me, I lost shortly afterwards
Game2 I was well aware of the existence of Realm Razer, playing arround it and finally winning the game with back to back Cruel Ultimatum
Game3 wasn't close since he kept a slow hand I manage to build my mana to cast siege-gang, he resolved realm razer but I have board pressence with 2 turtle and 3 goblin token and 2 land saved in hand, I drew the bolt needed to kill the razer and take the game with ultimatum
Round2: Bern with JUND(win 2-0)
Game1 and Game2 went the same way, I traded 1-1 with his threat and Ultimatum for the win it's not close since neither game he didn't have turn 2 leech
Round3: Isan with NAYA(lose 2-1)
Game1 i got stuck at 3 land and his cat made a short work of me, game2 he kept a slow hand and I just ultimatum for the win after controling the board, game3 I mulliganed to 5land 1counter hand which I relucatantly kept but I figure anything I draw, I can cast, well that ofcourse if I drew any spell, I drew like 12-13 out of my 28 lands and finally get some action going when I resolved an ultimatum....... WHERE like a stupid noob I forgot to gain 5 life, his next attack step put me to 1(6 if I remembered to gain life) and I can't clear his board with earthquake despite having another Cruel to take down the thornling
Round4: Arie with UW Control(Win 3-1)
Game1 wasn't even funny since he denied me my mana with edge and I got stuck at 5 land when he resolved Jace's ultimate, well to be honest, game 1 is not really the game I'm expecting to win anyway
Game2 and 3 was a lot in my favor thanks to good sideboard planning on my side, both game, duress and a resolved cruel sealed the
Top4: Bern with Jund (Win 4-1)
This is another 2 quick games where I perfectly draw what I need to actually fend off all his threat, in game 1 I got triple turtle to clog up the ground to his 3 thrinaxes, I finally ultimatum and swing with turtle for the win, game2 I killed all his threat and ultimatum for the win, it's not even funny
Final: Isan with Naya (Lose 4-2 boohoo)
It's rather anticlimatic to lose out on final due to mana constraint, both game I didn't actually get to cast ultimatum, nor even near that, game 1 I'm stuck @5 land for arround a couple of turn and keep drawing ultimatum and bolas. Game 2 i'm stuck @ 4 with only 1 red mana, needing the 2nd to cast 2 chain reaction i'm holding, but it was never meant to be as I kept on drawing blank and died to mass creature soon afterwards
Props:
- Apek for the 4th Lightning Bolt and organizing the tourney
- Isan for making it! GOGOGO
- SGC on my sideboard
cons:
- Huge misplay with cruel ultimatum not gaining 5 life
- Mana screw for the anticlimatic finish
